SAMURAI CREST
"Thirtysomething"
Inspired by the Kurosawa movies
YOJIMBO 用心棒 and SANJURO 椿三十郎
starring Toshiro Mifune
The Kanji under the symbol reads "Tsubaki Sanjro," which is what Mifune's character calls himself in the movie Sanjuro. It roughly translates to "Camellia Thirty-Something." In the movie Yojimbo, he refers to himself as "Kuwabatake Sanjuro," which means "Mulberry Field Thirty-Something." In both instances he is simply picking something found in plain sight at the time, which suggests that he wants to avoid using his real name altogether – he's just a wandering "man with no name."
